Dandeli is a town in the western Indian state of Karnataka. The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, with its trails and dense forests, is home to animals including black panthers, monkeys and elephants, as well as many bird species. A temple stands at the entrance to the limestone Kavala Caves, known for their stalagmite formations. West of the caves, Anshi National Park encompasses the Kali Tiger Reserve.
On the eastern side of the park, the Channabasaveshwar Temple in Ulavi is topped with a pointed dome, and is adjacent to a sacred, lotus-filled lake. It’s the resting place of a 12th-century saint, and pilgrimage site for followers of the Lingayat faith. Winding through the region from Dandeli, the Kali River is known for kayaking and white-water rafting. Near the Kodasalli Dam, several streams converge at the cascading Sathodi Falls. West of the falls, where the river meets the Arabian Sea, Karwar is a tranquil area with rugged hills and a long, sandy beach. Nearby, the ruined hilltop Sadashivgad Fort has coastal views.
